If we looked at the apostles at first or even second glass we probably would not see anything extraordinary about them but Christ saw something in them and asked them to follow him.

In this generation we are quick to judge the church and its people without looking deeper within. Perhaps if we took at the time to look at the body if Christ differently we could have a rebirth of the Church. We could perhaps have the fire and excitement that the Apostles felt as they followed Christ on their journey, despite knowing they would face trials and even betrayals.

The Story Continues The Acts of the Apostles for Today would make a great book for individual or group study. Perfect for a Bible Study Class.

I had utilized Kalas' through the Bible in a year resource The Grand Sweep before, but had never read any of his many books. For whatever reason they didn't seem to appeal. Kalas died earlier this year and his final book was this one on the book of Acts. I love Acts and decided to give this a try. What a treat. There is a chapter on Barnabas, a chapter on Stephen and Phillip, and a chapter on the people briefly named in Acts - any of which would be worth the price of the book. There is plenty he I had utilized Kalas' through the Bible in a year resource The Grand Sweep before, but had never read any of his many books. For whatever reason they didn't seem to appeal. Kalas died earlier this year and his final book was this one on the book of Acts. I love Acts and decided to give this a try. What a treat. There is a chapter on Barnabas, a chapter on Stephen and Phillip, and a chapter on the people briefly named in Acts - any of which would be worth the price of the book. There is plenty here for anyone who enjoys thoughtful exploration of the text by someone who clearly loves it. For the preacher this is like discovering a homiletics version of the band Fountains of Wayne. The hooks here are big and don't let go. Plenty to take to preparing to preach from the book of Acts. I look forward to reading more of Kalas' work. ...more
